Abstract: Abstract. The performances of an open Joule cycle Ericsson engine associated to a biomass micro-CHP unit are studied with a dynamic model implemented with the bond graph formalism. The dynamic phenomena of the expansion cylinder (pressure drops across the valves, thermal losses through the cylinder wall, mechanical energy exchanges through the crank and connecting rod system, mechanical friction) are represented. The expansion cycle and the indicated mean pressure of the Ericsson engine are strongly modified when considering the dynamic effects in the expansion cylinder, in particular the following influent parameters: sinusoidal valve lift, intake air temperature and pressure of the expansion cylinder, timing of intake and exhaust valve closing, rotational speed, mechanical friction losses.
